It was built at the Miami Shipyard in 1943, the ships name in the Navy was the YUKON, and it was stationed in Alaska.
It was the first AVR in the Sea Scouts program, and when obtained at the Mare Island Shipyard in Vallejo in 1946 by the Sea Scout Ship #13. The WIN-DEE obtained the boat in 1946. The skipper was Brian Simpson they had the boat until 1976 when the unit folded. Mr. Buck's unit acquired the boat then and operated it until 1986 when they folded their unit due to the city kicking them out of their base and the insurance cost as well as all the CG regulations. They renamed the boat the SSS SURF, which was the name of their pervious boats. They turned the boat over to the Scout Council who later sold it to a private party and the last he heard it was moved to Sacramento, Calif.
